Niels Shoe Meulman

Born in Amsterdam in 1967, Niels Meulman is an internationally known artist, designer, and art director. Meulman began tagging in 1979 and became a graffiti legend by the time he was 18. Known as ‘Shoe’ within the graffiti community, his work evolved into a business for lettering and he furthered his technique by apprenticing under the Dutch graphic design master, Anthon Beeke.

Si apre oggi giovedì 25 febbraio 2010 alla Galleria Antonio Colombo Welcome to Frisco, la prima personale di Mike Giant a Milano. Legato allo skate, ai graffiti, al lowbrow e al mondo dei tattoo, Giant presenta a Milano un’inedita serie di disegni originali e multipli in bianco e nero.

Storie di donne in giro per la città in bicicletta, iconografie religiose e fortemente simboliche, visioni da San Francisco. Accompagna la mostra un video sulla vita dell’artista, di Colin Arlen e Sean Patrick, suoi amici e collaboratori e un catalogo in edizione bilingue con citazioni di Mike Giant.

“Prima di tutto io sono un ‘vecchio hipster’ e ciò mi sta bene. Dopo aver fatto graffiti per vent’anni, spero che questo movimento non si esaurisca mai. Vorrei che valesse lo stesso discorso delle bici da pista, è cent’anni che ragazzi e ragazze trendy e vanitosi le usano sulle strade di San Francisco! Facci caso. Niente di tutto ciò è passato di moda o è sepolto. Esisterà sempre.”
